Do I need a car in Kalamaki?
Not every day. The beach is 50 metres away and the village square, with supermarkets and shops, about 100 metres. For Phaistos, Matala or the Saturday market in Moires a car helps; Moires is about 20 minutes away.
Are there sea turtles on the beach?
Yes. The Messara bay is a protected nesting area of the loggerhead turtle, Caretta caretta, from May to September. Please keep away from marked nests, don’t walk on the beach at night in summer, and leave sunbeds off the sand after dark.
